You check requirements and test innovative materials applying advanced analytical techniques for a sustainable energy generation and distribution. You connect state-of-the-art materials analysis and electrical testing techniques to assist the team in developing new materials focused on next-generation electrification products. Reporting to the Team Manager - Materials, you will engage with cross-functional teams inside the company and work together to demonstrate the successful concepts in prototypes serving as starting points for products. Further, you will contribute to the definition of the team research roadmap and to the execution of the research projects..Your responsibilities
  • Testing and analyzing of materials to support research projects with a direct industrial relevance.
  • Driving of material testing and analytics from planning and sample preparation to measurements and documentation
  • Maintaining and updating measurement equipment infrastructure
  • Working in interdisciplinary project teams at the interface between material science and electrical engineering
  • Contributing to a deep scientific understanding of the processing-structure-property relationships in materials
  • Monitoring of new material developments and technologies
  • Contributing to the planning, setup, and execution of experiments
  • Closely cooperating with scientists and engineers from the ABB research community
Your background
  • Knowledge of and experience in state-of-the-art materials analysis techniques
  • Basic understanding of the properties of all materials classes (metals, polymers, ceramics, composites)
  • Experience in sample preparation techniques
  • A strong background in metallography, optical and scanning electron microscopy, X-ray diffraction, gas and combustion analysis and mechanical testing is a plus.
  • Genuine enthusiasm for working on topics enabling the energy transition and ensuring a greener society.
  • BSc/MSc in material science, mechanical science or physics is a plus.
  • Strong communication skills in English (both written and spoken) are required, German is a plus
