Empa is a research institution of the ETH Domain.Postdoctoral researcher with a background in Computational biology or Data ScienceEmpa's Laboratory 'Particles-Biology Interactions' and its group 'Multi-omics for healthcare materials' are looking for a candidate for an interdisciplinary project on the development of new computational approaches for improving safety and sustainability of (nano)materials based on publicly available data and tools, including omics data, and integration of novel methods for replacing animal testing. The project involves collaborations with several leading European research groups and experts in the field. The Postdoctoral researcher will perform cutting edge research work, develop novel computational tools and integrate new strategies for the safe and sustainable use of chemicals and materials.Your tasks
Large-scale data analysis, programming and statistical evaluation
Machine learning analyses: implementation of established and new workflows
Coordination of activities with Consortium partners, including presentation of results at consortium meetings
Preparation of results for publishing and presentation at conferences
Development of models for health and environmental impact assessment
Your profileWe are looking for a candidate with:
PhD in the area of Computational biology or Life Cycle Assesment
Results-oriented and cooperative personality
Background in computational biology,bioinformatics, life cycle assessment, hazard assessment or a related field
Strong programming and statistical knowledge, including machine learning
A strong academic record
Excellent communication skills with a good command of the English language Beneficial skills for this position include:
Familiarity with Safe and Sustainable by Design methods and tools
Familiarity with datasets and models for health and environmental impact assessment
Interest in mechanisms of disease development
Expertise in network analysis
Experience with omics data analysis

The Postdoctoral position is for the duration of two years. It is based at Empa, St. Gallen, and it is available from November 2025, or upon mutual agreement.
