The Lukatskaya and Herrmann Laboratories are seeking a highly motivated PhD candidate to embark on a groundbreaking project focused on the electrochemical and materials engineering for nerve regeneration.Project backgroundThis unique project aims to facilitate nerve regeneration and repair using an electrochemical and material-centric approach. Leveraging the expertise of both the Lukatskaya and Herrmann Labs, the research will involve interdisciplinary approaches combining materials science, fundamental electrochemistry, advanced fabrication and characterization techniques, and surgical implementation in clinically relevant models at the Balgrist University Hospital.Job description
  • Understand fundamental drivers of nerve regeneration
  • Design and synthesize novel electroconductive materials for nerve regeneration.
  • Develop and characterize conduit prototypes, assessing their performance and safety.
  • Collaborate with a dynamic team of scientists, engineers and surgeons to integrate smart materials and sensing technologies into the conduit design.
  • Analyze data and publish findings in high-impact journals.
  • Present research at leading national and international conferences.
Your profile
  • A master's degree in Chemistry, Biomedical Engineering, Materials Science, or a related field.
  • Strong interest in electrochemistry, biomedical engineering, or microfabrication is desirable.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficiency in oral and written English.
  • A passion for research and innovation.
