Our client is known for its strong focus on innovation, particularly in personalized healthcare, and has played a major role in developing treatments for oncology, immunology, infectious diseases, and neuroscience.We are looking for an experienced:Natural Language Processing Expert (m/f/d)Location: Basel (remote work possible)Start Date: ASAP (latest by 01.11.2025)End Date: 31.12.2025 (extension possible)Workload: 50-100%In this role, you will support the development of a machine learning system for automated classification of assay protocol documents. This high-impact project will improve data access, accelerate research workflows, and enhance overall data quality across our R&D organization. You will play a critical role in building, optimizing, and deploying a Transformer-based NLP model in a production-ready environment.Your Key Responsibilities:
Optimize and fine-tune Transformer architectures for multi-label classification.
Experiment with advanced techniques to address severe class imbalance in text datasets.
Perform error analysis and propose data-driven performance improvements.
Enhance data processing, label mapping, and stratified data splitting methods.
Collaborate with software architects to integrate the model into a production REST API.
Document all work thoroughly for handover and future reference.
Qualifications and Experience:
Relevant Swiss working/residency permit or Swiss/EU-Citizenship required.
Advanced degree in AI, NLP, Machine Learning, or a related field.
Proven expertise in multi-task and multi-label classification, especially with imbalanced datasets.
Proficient in PyTorch, including custom architectures and loss functions.
Experience deploying models as REST APIs.
Strong Python software engineering skills, including use of Docker.
Fluent in English; excellent collaboration and problem-solving skills.
Nice to Haves:
Experience with biomedical/scientific documents.
Knowledge of advanced data splitting for multi-label tasks.
Familiarity with MLOps tools and best practices.
