Job Description:Material Scientist (m/f)Role Overview:Huntsman Corporation's Product Innovation Team within the Advanced Materials division is seeking a Materials Scientist. The position is a full-time contract based at our Advanced Materials Technology Center in Basel, Switzerland. The team's objective is to deliver cutting-edge technology to customers, providing the highest level of solutions to enhance technology. The selected candidate is expected to play a pivotal role in the development and validation of new materials and technology platforms. Apply today!Role Responsibilities:As a Material Scientist, you will be responsible for:
  • Conduct research to identify opportunities for development of new generation of high-performance polymeric materials for industrial applications.
  • Design and develop new materials based on process-structure–property relationships. Perform proof-of-concept assessment and create prototypes. Iterate material design based on resulting performance and customers’ feedback.
  • Design and execute experiments to assess the properties and performance of various materials, including but not limited to adhesives, composites and encapsulants.
  • Maintain detailed records of laboratory work procedures and test results in the electronic laboratory notebook. Analyze experimental data and prepare technical reports for internal and external stakeholders.
  • Conduct technology scouting to understand industry and technology trends including the latest relevant developments in materials science.
  • Proactively look for opportunities to gain IP and create commercial advantage through product innovation.
  • Ensure that all activities are in line with Environment, Health and Safety principles, Ethics & Compliance and International Trade Compliance guidelines.
Experience and Competencies:We are looking for experienced candidates with excellent communication skills and a solution focused approach.What we are looking for:
  • PhD degree in in materials science and engineering or polymer chemistry.
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in materials research and development.
  • Good knowledge of polymer chemistry and physics particularly thermoset polymers.
  • Deep understanding of the process-structure–property relationships in polymers and surface and interface phenomena in hybrid materials. Ability to translate application challenges into the fundamental elements of material design.
  • Expertise in materials modeling would be a plus.
  • Passion to learn and a continuous improvement mindset.
  • Effective oral and written English communication skills.
